FAQs

What is a Kei vehicle?

The phrase “Kei car” is derived from the Japanese word keijidōsha, which translates to “light automobile.”

A Kei car, or “light automobile”, is a vehicle category in Japan that’s made up of the smallest highway-legal passenger cars. The kei car category was created by the Japanese government in 1949, shortly after the end of World War II.

The Kei car has since become one of Japan’s most successful and most popular vehicles, accounting for over a third of domestic car sales.

How fast do they go?

Generally speaking, these trucks run 60 MPH. I’m sure with some tweaking of a stock setup they will run faster. I’ve ran 65 MPH in a stock ‘95 4wd Acty but that was on flat ground and all it wanted to do. We’ve had one customer who got a GPS verified 75 out of his Acty with stock rims/tires, but that was a 2wd and less running gear to move.

Are they all 4 wheel drive?

4wd is optional equipment. There are 2wd versions as well as other rarities like dump beds, locking differentials or lift-gate vehicles.

What size is the bed?

52” Wide x 76” Long x 12” Deep

What about heat and a/c?

They do come with heat and a/c, although a/c is harder to come by. I’ve had many Hondas over my years and they all have not let me down in the heat department. Cold Indiana winters running around town in little beater Honda Civics always kept me toasty inside and these trucks are no different. The heater will “run you outta there” as the saying goes.

On the a/c side of things, I’ve experienced the cool to cold air in both types of honda vehicles and although it’s not a domestic ice-cold like you’re in a refrigerator feeling, it does a fine job of cooling the cab. And let’s face it, there’s not a lot of real estate in these cabs that need to be cooled, so it works well and is nice to have on a hot summer day.

Can I find parts?

This is just the beginning of these trucks entering the U.S. and becoming part of our daily life. At the moment there are a growing number of places that stock parts and of course you can find new and used parts more and more on websites like eBay and even Amazon. Parts aren’t prevalent but they are acquirable without much effort. If anything, it usually has more to do with time in shipping, but that is getting better too from what we’ve seen.
